At first she said we would spend the night in
a hotel the people at Daarut Tauhiid recommended. They took us down
the road a ways from the Massid to a hotel and we checked in. I
took a shower. After I finished my shower she closed the door and
said we had to pray. We prayed for some time. Then she told me we
should leave because they were going to kill us if we stayed there
that night. She called a taxi and I forget where she said we were
going at first. After leaving the hotel she said we should go back
Abba in Tasik. We worked out the price with the driver and in the
middle of the night started back on a 3 hour drive to Tasik. I think
it was after midnight when we arrived in Tasik at the Massid for
Abba. She talked with the people there and managed to get us a room
in some house for the night. We slept on the floor in a room with
a curtain drawn in front of it. Morning came and we got up dressed
and organized our clothes. Then we went to see Abba. Teti talked
with him and got him to pray for us. Then we went outside. It just
so happens they were having a wedding party so they had tables set
up with lots of food. Teti and Tiara ate a plate of food but I felt
to nervous to eat. After eating she said we should go back to Bandung
and see her brother. Teti arranged for a driver to take us. He had
to take us into Bandung first so I could get some more money from
an ATM. Then he took us to the brother's house near to Rancaekek.
We went in the house but something really did not feel right. The
brother had been sick so she talked with the wife. I could tell
things were not working out for us to stay there. She did not ever
trust them too much anyway. After maybe one hour of talking Teti
said she was ready to go. She tried to call a taxi but it took a
long time. After waiting a while she stopped an empty ancott and
asked what it would cost to take us to Garut. Garut is a small town
about two hours from Bandung that has hot springs. We went there
and found a hotel. The rest of the day I think we slept with the
doors locked. We stayed there almost three weeks. My passport was
expiring so I talked Teti into going to Jakarta. We got a room at
the hotel where we were when we first met. Her condition still was
not improving. I was a little scared for her. I would have to hold
her tighly at night not sleeping myself. We completed everything
for my passport and started to go back to Bandung. All of a sudden
Teti said she wanted to go to the hospital. Then she said she saw
David following us. We finally made it to a small westerner hospital.
We went back and talked with the doctor. He then said he wanted
to talk with Teti alone. I did not feel comfortable about that but
agreed. After about fifteen minutes he came back out and said he
wanted to talk with me. He told me that someone practicing black
magic was torturing her. He said he had seen it often and that we
needed to attend some kind of help group for her the next week.
He said she would eventually die if we did not get help. I think
I told him that God would take care but I do not remember for sure.
I was surprised that an educated doctor would believe that black
magic has more power that God. He gave her some medication to help
her relax and we headed back to Bandung.
We went to the village where family lives. We moved in with a blind
woman she had been taking care of for many years and her dad before
that.
It took me several months of getting her back to health. In February
Capsugel could no longer wait for return and accepted my resignation.
I had started the business on the Internet, which was in a beginning
state at http://tradur.com. It was bringing in a small income, very
small outside of the holidays. I am presently trying to get involved
with selling Indonesian exports to the US and maybe Europe. This
I will display on my company site at http://tradur.com. I also do
web design for any one in the world. I have completed sites in Australia,
Canada and the USA. I do all of this via the Internet. Because I
am a US citizen I am not allowed to work here in Indonesia. It takes
six years before I can apply for citizenship here in Indonesia.
Times will be difficult for sometime but I am happy because here
in Indonesia I have a chance to learn more and more about being
a good Muslim.
I decide that I would attend an Islamic university.
This would allow me to stay in the country as a student and also
further my knowledge about Islam. I started a bridging course under
the supervision of Syah Muhibbin in May at IAIN in Bandung.
